What is the Aussie Backyard Bird Count?

The Aussie Backyard Bird Count is among Australia’s biggest citizen science projects. Running from October 18-24, 2021, residents from all walks of life are invited to take part.

Taking part in the Bird Count is easy. Just spend 20 minutes in your favourite outdoor space and count the birds you see. You can submit your counts using the app or the website, and there’s a handy bird finder tool to help you ID any birds you’re unsure of. Not only will you be helping science, participants report feeling happier, more relaxed, and closer to nature after completing a count – and there’s the chance to win some incredible prizes.
